 Community Awareness Committee
About the Community Awareness
Committee
The Community Awareness Committee (CAC) has a membership that includes up to 15 individuals who reside in Southlake Regional Health Centre’s immediate service area (i.e., Aurora, Bradford/West Gwillimbury, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Newmarket, and King Township).
These members have a strong interest in healthcare and a desire to provide a valuable link between the Hospital and their communities.
The CAC is a subcommittee of Southlake's Board of Directors. As such, all members volunteer their time. The chair of the CAC is a full voting member of the Board of Directors.
The CAC meets regularly to learn first hand about current and future programs, services, and facility improvements at the Hospital, and to discuss health-related issues that concern their communities. The CAC plays a significant role in planning, implementing, and promoting special events, such as open houses and educational forums.
Time Commitment And Experience
The CAC meets each month from September to June. Members commit, on average, four hours per month to attend meetings and support hospital-related community events. Members are selected for two-year terms with a possibility of renewal for an additional two-year term.
Individuals do not require any previous committee or health-related experience to apply.
Interested individuals must reside in Southlake’s immediate service area to be eligible to apply for membership.
Individuals over the age of 18 are welcomed to apply for membership on the CAC.
Mandate of the CAC
- Respond to the Hospital's requests that require community feedback and/or involvement.
- Provide a liaison between Southlake and the communities it serves.
- Advocate for the community (not individuals) and for the Hospital.
- Identify community resources available to Southlake.
