Southlake's Spiritual Care Program provides spiritual, religious, and emotional support to patients, families, and staff on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis. The program is supported by three part-time Hospital Staff Chaplains and a Spiritual Care Team, which include volunteer chaplains, community clergy, and trained lay spiritual care volunteer visitors.
Patients will be visited by a member of the Spiritual Care team if they give their consent upon admission or if they ask their nurse to page a chaplain for them. If specific religious sacraments or a visit from their own religious faith leader is requested, arrangements can also be made through the Spiritual Care office.
Did You Know?
A recent survey showed that hospitalized patients ranked compassion, a caring presence, and prayer as top priorities in their spiritual care. We suggest families and friends encourage the patient to seek spiritual support in times of need.
Other Services Offered Include:
Memorial Services
Every year in April, a memorial service is held at Southlake for families whose loved ones have died of cancer. Private memorial services are also available upon request.
Grief Support
"Growing Through Grief" support groups are offered three or four times each year to help the bereaved through the grieving process.
Spiritual Care Visitor Training
Every fall or Spring as required, a basic training course is offered once a week for six weeks by the Hospital Chaplain to lay people who are interested in becoming volunteer Spiritual Care Visitors (excluding volunteer clergy).
