Ontario healthcare professionals can make a difference in the recovery from the tsunami tragedy in Asia
Newmarket, January 5, 2005 – The Government of Ontario is creating an inventory of Ontarians wishing to volunteer their specialized technical and/or professional skills that may potentially be of assistance to the people and the countries in the disaster area. Once the Federal Government has identified the specific needs of the affected countries, the Government of Ontario will forward to the Federal Government the names of those having specialized skills that appear to match actual requirements as determined by the affected countries.
The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is providing a 1-800 number for interested individuals to register their names, particular skills, languages spoken, and contact information. These names will then be added to the inventory being developed by Emergency Management of Ontario.
In addition, organizations with equipment and/or supplies that they anticipate could be helpful in this relief effort can register using the same contact number.
The number to call to register is (416) 212-0822 for local callers and 1-866-212-2272 for long distance callers.
