Southlake Named Top GTA Employer for Fourth Consecutive Year
Hospital Recognized for Ongoing Education Opportunities for Employees
Newmarket, Ontario – November 16, 2011 –For the fourth year in a row, Southlake Regional Health Centre has been named one of the Greater Toronto Area’s top employers for 2012.
Gary Ryan, Chief Operating Officer at Southlake said, “Today’s announcement speaks to the level of passion and dedication of everyone at Southlake. To be recognized like this for four straight years is an honour and a true testament to the great culture of excellence that we have developed and continue to sustain here.”
Published in today’s Globe and Mail, the list celebrates the very best in organizational excellence by acknowledging corporations that provide the best work environments for their employees. The list is organized by Mediacorp, the same organization responsible for the Canada’s Top 100 Employers list.
Corporations are judged on criteria such as the physical workplace, work atmosphere, health and family benefits, employee communications, performance management and community involvement.
Southlake was one of six hospitals to be included, and was recognized alongside such reputable organizations as The Hospital for Sick Children, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Southlake was evaluated on the above criteria, and then compared to other healthcare organizations to determine the leaders in the field. Mediacorp looks for organizations that
actively attempt and succeed at creating a positive and rewarding work environment for their employees. In addition to the above criteria, Southlake was recognized specifically for offering tuition subsidies for continuing employee education both at the hospital and outside institutions.
With the expansion of its regional cancer and cardiac programs, as well as other programs in the hospital, Southlake is in the process of transitioning from a community hospital to a designated academic teaching and research facility that is committed to providing a safe environment for its patients and staff. By valuing its people, and encouraging them to reach new heights, the hospital has solidified itself as one the great places to work in the region.
“Southlake’s growth as an academic teaching centre and our commitment to safety is the reason for this continued success, and was one of the factors that drew me to this organization,” said new President and CEO, Dr. Dave Williams. “And we won’t stop here – our goal is to continue improving and to become one of Canada’s Top 100 employers.”
The list of Canada’s Top 100 Employers looks at the recruitment history of more than 75 000 employers, before they allowed 12 500 to apply for this years list. The number of applicants has risen by 15 per cent from the past year, but remains a goal of Southlake Regional Health Centre in the years to come.
