Southlake Regional Health Centre
and Stevenson Memorial Hospital Announce
Shared Human Resource Services
(Newmarket, Ontario - August 12, 2003) Southlake Regional
Health Centre (SRHC) in Newmarket and Stevenson Memorial Hospital
(SMH) in Alliston are pleased to announce a unique development that
will provide a broader range of human resources and employee training
and development services being offered at SMH. This arrangement
further strengthens the 1999 Network that was formed between the
two hospitals to share clinical and administrative services in order
to improve access to quality health care services for the residents
of northern York Region and southern Simcoe County.
On a contract basis, SRHC will deploy a full-time human resource
specialist to SMH to assist with employee/labour relations, develop
recruitment and retention strategies, and assist with the existing
benefits administration and employee health and safety programs
based on programs successfully being offered at SRHC.
According to SMH's CEO, Ed Takacs, the relationship strengthens
his organization's commitment to attract and retain qualified health
care professionals to the New Tecumseth community.
"We are very fortunate to have dedicated and qualified staff
at Stevenson Memorial Hospital to serve our community," said
Mr. Takacs. "Our arrangement with Southlake provides us with
the enhanced expertise to develop meaningful employee programs."
For SRHC President and CEO, Dan Carriere, the relationship is an
example of good business management in a health care environment
that is stretched for resources.
"Within the next year, we have the responsibility of hiring
an additional 400 full time staff to support the new and expanding
services we will offer upon completion of our $149 million expansion
project," said Mr. Carriere. "This has resulted in our
developing a number of creative strategies in which to attract the
right kind of people to our organization. If we can duplicate what
we have learned and share it with Stevenson then both organizations
will save money and that simply makes good sense for everyone involved,"
Other services that have been shared between SRHC and SMH since
the creation of the 1999 Network include, patient information systems,
obstetrical back-up coverage, public relations and corporate support
services, financial consultation assistance, and mental health program
development.
