Southlake Partners with York University in Research Project
Newmarket, Ontario – April 11, 2011: In March 2011, four York University scientists joined the Southlake team. On-site for one to two days a week, these individuals will work with hospital clinicians to support the following research efforts:
Chris Arden, PhD - A professor in the School of Kinesiology & Health Science in York’s Faculty of Health, Chris’ current research interests include: the epidemiology of physical activity, obesity and cardiometabolic risk. Chris will be embedded in Southlake’s Medicine, emergency, surgery and chronic disease management programs.
Imogen Coe, PhD - Focused on research in the area of proteins knows as nucleoside transporters, Imogen and her team will work with the cardiac and cancer programs in an effort to develop a more personalized approach to the treatment of disease.
Paul Ritvo, PhD - A behavioral scientist and professor in York’s Faculty of Health, Paul will act as the special project scientist, bringing expertise in care delivery models and electronic health applications to Southlake. Paul will work to extend current studies around electronic health interventions that use innovative software like Blackberry’s to help reduce health risks among patients.
Lauren Sergio, PhD - A neuroscientist working in York’s Sherman Health Science Research Centre, Lauren will focus her research efforts within the mental health and maternal child programs, with additional emphasis on chronic disease, and neurological conditions.
Committed to partnering with post-secondary institutions, like York University and the University of Toronto, Southlake is in the midst of transitioning into a full-fledged teaching and research facility, with a special focus on inter-professional learning.
The collaborative approach between universities and Southlake will result in new and innovative ways to deliver exceptional care to the 1.2 million people who reside in Northern York region and South Simcoe County.
