Southlake tops list for third consecutive year as one of GTA's Top Employers

Newmarket, Ontario – November 22, 2010 – For the third consecutive year, Southlake Regional Health Centre is honored to be recognized as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top Employers for 2011, by MediaCorp Canada Inc.

The 2011 list of recipients, publically released in the November 22 edition of the Globe and Mail, recognizes employers in the Greater Toronto Area that actively attempt and succeed at creating a positive and rewarding work environment for their employees. Each year, Mediacorp receives applications from hundreds of companies throughout the GTA. Southlake is proud to be placed in such selective company, maintaining their place among the top employers in the GTA for a third consecutive year.

“This level of recognition is a true testament to the kind of people who comprise this organization,” says Dan Carriere, President and CEO. “Each and every day, I am honored to be able to lead such an extraordinary group of passionate, dedicated individuals who have committed their lives to helping others. Being recognized as one of GTA’s Top Employers is an exceptional honor that I think each of Our People should be very proud of.”

As an organization, Southlake is committed to continuous improvement and has made strides over the last few years to inspire staff, foster passion and evolve individuals to meet their professional needs. The hard work that has gone into being recognized as one the GTA’s Top Employers confirms that Southlake continues to showcase the organization’s strengths through the value and actions of their People.

“We care passionately about Our People and know that in order to earn a reputation for being a great place to work, you have to make individuals feel valued,” said Annette  Jones, Chief Nursing Officer  and Interim Vice President, Human Resources.  “Our overall staff commitment score of 70.8%, which equates to 16% higher than the average score achieved by all other participating hospitals, tells me that we’re doing something right.”

Using management techniques, recognition and incentive programs, and effective development of personnel, Southlake encourages staff to live the organization’s bold mission of Shockingly Excellent Service each and every day. Affirming Southlake’s commitment to employees, the organization is home to many initiatives that reflect what it means to be one of the GTA’s Top Employers.

Southlake was evaluated through an application process that looked at several different criteria. The editors, who also run the Canada’s Top 100 Employers program, evaluated employers based on; physical workplace, work and social atmosphere, benefits, employee communication, vacation and time off, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement. The editors then compared Southlake to other healthcare organizations to determine leaders of the field.
