Southlake Regional Health Centre Announces Resignation of President & CEO
Newmarket, Ontario – December 9, 2010 – The Board of Directors of Southlake Regional Health Centre announce that it has received and accepted, with regret, the resignation of Daniel P. Carriere, President & CEO, effective January 21, 2011. Mr. Carriere has chosen to pursue a career in the private sector.
Chairman, Mr. Stephen E. Quinlan expressed his gratitude to Mr. Carriere on behalf of the Board of Directors, stating, “I would like to thank Dan for his many years of dedicated service. His vision, leadership, commitment, and passion over the past 17 years have resulted in Southlake transforming from a small community hospital into a highly respected and recognized centre of regional healthcare excellence within the province of Ontario. Southlake would not be where it is today without Dan Carriere. We wish him the utmost success as he assumes his new responsibilities.”
Under Mr. Carriere’s leadership, Southlake has doubled both its physical size to 540,000 square feet and its staff to 2,700. He was instrumental in establishing several advanced diagnostic and treatment services, including the recently opened Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and the regional cardiac program, which today is recognized as the fourth-largest program in Ontario.
In addition to his role at Southlake, Mr. Carriere was appointed by provincial health authorities to review several Ontario hospitals to assist and advise them on matters relating to operations and strategic planning. In 2003, he was recognized with a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his commitment to establish advanced healthcare services closer to home for the residents of York Region, Simcoe County, and south Muskoka.
“As a local resident, Southlake is the hospital I trust and rely on when my family needs healthcare services. To have had the privilege of serving as this great organization’s CEO for the past 17 years has indeed been an honour,” says Carriere. “I have been fortunate to have worked alongside some of the most talented people in the healthcare industry. I am confident that this community will continue to benefit from their commitment to strive for excellence in everything that they do.”
