GTA Top 90 Employers:
Southlake recognized for second consecutive year
Newmarket, Ontario – October 20, 2009 – For the second consecutive year, Southlake Regional Health Centre is proud to announce that it has been successful over hundreds of other applicants and been recognized by Mediacorp Canada Inc., as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top 90 Employers for 2010. The Top Employers list has been expanded this year to include 90 employers in total, up from 75 Top Employers the previous year.
The 2010 edition of the list, publically released in the October 18 edition of the Toronto Star, recognizes employers in the Greater Toronto Area that actively attempt and succeed at creating a positive and rewarding work environment for their employees. While Mediacorp examines hundreds of companies throughout the GTA, Southlake is proud to be placed in such selective company, maintaining their place among the top 90 employers in the GTA for a second year.
“As an organization, we can be very proud of this accomplishment,” says Daniel Carriere, President and CEO of Southlake Regional Health Centre. “Being recognized for the second year in a row is a great honour and indication that we are doing something right. This recognition provides us with further momentum to keep moving forward so we can meet our objective as a Top 100 Employer in Canada.”
This year’s recognition further solidifies Southlake’s place among the GTA’s Top 90 Employers, showcasing its efforts of implementing their culture and values into the workplace on an everyday basis. Southlake has not only worked on having staff live its mission, vision, and values, but has also done extensive work to increase employee recognition by revamping the employee recognition program.
“We have worked hard to create an environment where our employees feel valued and appreciated, however it is the commitment and actions of Our People that put us ahead”, said Gary Ryan, Vice President, Human Resources. “We continually strive to position Southlake as a great place to work, practise, volunteer, and receive care. This award proves that.”
Southlake has many initiatives in place to ensure employees feel like they are valued members of the organization, as well as making sure that all employees understand and portray what the organization’s culture is. Being committed to providing “shockingly excellent service”, exceptional care, and being passionate about your job, co-workers, and patients is a commitment that needs to be adopted and exemplified by all staff to ensure the desired outcome. Through management techniques, recognition and incentive programs, hiring, and effective development of personnel, Southlake continues to be recognized as great place to work.
To be considered as part of the competition for 2010, Southlake completed an extensive application that dealt with many areas of the organization including: workforce, physical environment, work and social atmosphere, compensation, vacation and personal day policies, health, and financial and family-friendly benefits.
This is the fourth year that Mediacorp has used the platform to recognize companies in the Greater Toronto Area and is the second straight year for Southlake Regional Health Centre to be recognized. The editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers organize the competition.
