H1N1 Influenza A (Swine Flu)
Updated June 5, 2009
WEB ALERT
As of Friday, June 5, 2009, Southlake’s Emergency Department has screened approximately 101 people for the H1N1 (Swine Flu) Influenza A virus. To date, 9 people have tested positive. All patients tested, including the individuals that have tested positive, have and/or continue to exhibit mild symptoms. They continue to rest at home following appropriate, Public Health approved precautionary measures.
Although the number of confirmed cases of H1N1 continues to decline, Southlake’s Emergency Department remains vigilant in its efforts to appropriately screen patients with symptoms of influenza—like illnesses. To ensure the protection of other patients waiting within the emergency department, our priority is to screen and test these patients immediately. We ask for your continued patience in this regard.
Test, Clinics, and Surgical Procedures
Although positive test results have occurred, it is not affecting the routine delivery of patient care at the Hospital. At this time, all patient appointments will remain as scheduled. If you are coming to the hospital for an out-patient test, clinic visit, or surgical procedure, please be aware that you will be screened for Severe Respiratory Illness by a nurse or registration clerk prior to your appointment. In addition, you will be required to follow the instructions posted at all entrances and to frequently wash your hands and/or clean them with the alcohol-based hand rub provided. If you are feeling unwell on the day of your appointment, please call the department where your appointment is scheduled prior to coming to the hospital for further advice and directions.
Visitors
The Hospital’s visiting hours are between 2:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and effective immediately, will be strictly enforced. Visitors must self-screen and clean their hands with the alcohol hand foam prior to entering the hospital and, before entering and exiting a patient room. Visitors who are feeling unwell are asked to NOT visit at this time.
