Patient Meals

Nutrition is an important part of your recovery. The goal of the Food Services Department is to deliver prompt and friendly service and provide meals that meet your nutritional needs. Patients on most units have the opportunity to select their food choices from a Food Services representative.

Meals are served during the following time periods:

  • Breakfast  7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch   11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • Dinner  4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

To better serve the needs of both patients and staff, Food Services has established an information hotline. By dialing FOOD (extension 3663) callers will be promoted to make one of two selections. The first prompt offers callers a pre-recorded message outlining the menu items that will be served in the Marketeria that day. The second prompt offers callers the opportunity to leave a comment or concerns in the voicemail box.

Messages will be retrieved on a daily basis and if requested, someone from Food Services will respond to your call within 24 hours. However, the purpose of the hotline is to improve communication and feedback opportunities. All concerns requiring immediate attention should continue to be direction to the Food Services Department at extension 2524.

Vending Machines

Vending and/or pop machines are located on several floors throughout the Hospital. For the convenience of our visitors, a microwave oven is available during business hours in the seating area of Traditions Marketplace & Grill - the Hospital's restaurant.

Parking Options

As a result of ongoing expansion to address high population growth and an increased demand on services, Southlake's campus consists of various onsite and offsite locations to better serve its patients. Various parking options are available to accommodate each location.

Parking Garage
Located on the corner of Davis Drive and Prospect Street, the six-story Parking Garage offers 472 parking spaces to patients and visitors who are accessing services in the Emergency Department, West Building, Medical Arts Building, and the Regional Cancer Centre.

Patients and visitors who are accessing services in the Medical Arts Building at Southlake (581 Davis Drive, corner of Davis Drive and Lundy’s Lane) are encouraged to park in the Parking Garage and use the bridge spanning Davis Drive to enter the building. The bridge is accessible from Level P3 of the Parking Garage.

The Tannery Mall
Located offsite at 461 Davis Drive, the Tannery offers a select number of reserved parking spots for patients who are visiting Southlake clinics in the building. Parking rates are set by the Tannery building management and uses a pay-and-display method.

Handicap Parking
Handicap parking spaces are located in all visitors’ parking lots, on each level of the parking garage, and in front of the Emergency Department.

Short-Term Parking
For individuals who wish only to drop a patient off at the Emergency Department or are confident that the time they will spend at the Hospital will be less than two hours, short-term parking is now available. Using a "Pay and Display" ticket system, 20 short-term parking spaces are available in front of the Emergency Department, and 34 short-term spaces are available on the first floor of the new parking garage.

Spiritual and Religious Care

Spiritual and Religious Care is available at any time through the services of the Hospital Chaplain, community clergy, volunteer chaplains, and pastoral care volunteers, to assist patients and family members with their spiritual and/or religious needs without bias. If you want to see the Hospital chaplain, or your own minister or church visitor, any member of the healthcare team will be pleased to assist you in making the necessary arrangements.

Taxi

Phones providing a direct link to a local taxi company are located in the East and West Building lobbies.

Televisions

Television rentals are provided by the Hospitality Network. To order your personal television, or if you require information on rental fees, please call extension 2559.

Telephones

At Southlake Regional Health Centre, a telephone is located beside each patient bed (exceptions apply on some patient care units). If you request the use of a telephone during your hospital stay, please dial “0” and ask the switchboard operator to activate your telephone. You will be charged a nominal daily fee for telephone services. A Hospitality Network representative will come to your patient room to collect fees. Pay phones are also located on every level and in the East and West Building lobbies.

Patients wanting to call long distance must use the pre-paid Call2Talk long distance calling card, available for purchase in the Gift Shoppe, East Building, Level 1 during regular hours, and at East Information, East Building, Level 1 once the Gift Shoppe is closed.

For 100 minutes at $5 anywhere in Canada and the US, patients can use their Call2Talk card to make long-distance calls using their bedside telephone, a hospital payphone, or a telephone outside of the hospital.

Outside calls can be directly dialed into patient rooms. Please give your family and friends the main hospital telephone number (905) 895-4521 and your extension number as shown on the telephone handset.

In consideration for other patients, incoming calls are blocked between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. Urgent after-hour calls will be directed to the patient care unit.

Before you are discharged, please let your relatives and friends know when you are leaving so the next patient does not receive your calls.

If you have any questions or concerns about your telephone, please dial "0" and a switchboard operator will assist you.

Visitor/Patient Information

Privacy Act

Since the implementation of the Privacy Act, the Hospital is legislated to protect your personal information. On admission you will be asked if you consent to the release of information in regards to being a patient in the Hospital in the event that outside callers/visitors inquire. This also includes any restrictions that you may have on visitors. Health status or information will never be given out over the telephone to anyone at anytime.

After discharge, all requests for health information (legal/insurance/clinical, etc.) should be directed to the Health Information Department at extension 2635.

Patient Information

Patient room numbers, telephone extensions and directions to patient rooms are provided at the information desk located in the East Building lobby. A courtesy phone is located on the desk in the West lobby. By calling extension 2118 you will be connected with the East information desk and a representative will be happy to provide you with a patient room number.

The information desks are staffed by a Hospital employee or volunteer during the busiest hours of the day. However, patient information is available 24 hours a day by dialing extension 2118 from any telephone located within the Hospital (telephones are located at the East and West Information Desks) or, if calling from outside the Hospital, by dialing (905) 895-4521, extension 2118.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are daily from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Only two visitors are permitted at one time. Requests for exceptions will be considered by the healthcare team if it is deemed to be in the patient's best interest. For further information, please call extension 2118 and request to speak with a member of the patient's healthcare team.

If your family and friends are ill, or have been in contact with an infectious disease, they should not visit the Hospital. Bringing young children and infants to hospital is strongly discouraged particularly if they are visiting relatives who are very ill on a medical or surgical unit. The Maternal Child Program welcomes visits from siblings providing the children are well and have not been in contact with an infectious disease recently such as chicken pox or measles that could potentially be transmitted to newborns.
