The Whipper Watson Challenge Campaign
In support of Southlake's Therapeutic Pool
Jordanne's Story
 |
Jordanne Fuller was just 18 months old when she was diagnosed with one of the most common chronic, childhood disorders - juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Typical treatment includes medication to reduce the pain and swelling complimented by exercise to prevent further joint damage. Luckily for Jordanne, there was a therapeutic pool available, close to home at Southlake. |
“Going to the pool at Southlake was part of my childhood,” shares the 21-year old Early Childhood Education student. “And the staff and volunteers were part of my family.”
Jordanne had her left hip totally replaced, at Southlake, in 2003. “I didn’t know how bad my hip really was until after the surgery when I asked to see it,” she says. “I was shocked to see that there was virtually no cartilage left!”
While recovering from her hip replacement surgery, Jordanne visited her old friends at the Whipper Watson Therapeutic Pool. Many of the volunteers and staff remembered her and those meeting her for the first time were delighted to meet ‘the girl from the photo’ that still hangs on the wall of the facility.
Taken when Jordanne was just 3 years old, this photograph beautifully captures the warmth Whipper Watson felt for all the people who benefited from the therapeutic pool he helped to build.
