Southlake... count on me Campaign Update

June 14, 2008:
The campaign to build the Regional Cancer Program at Southlake Regional Health Centre just got $400,000 closer with a gift from RBC. “With almost one out of every two Ontarians receiving a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime, we believe it is more important than ever to help Southlake provide accessible, high quality cancer care to one of Canada’s fastest-growing municipalities,” said Jennifer Tory, regional president, Greater Toronto Region, RBC. “At RBC, we strive to have a lasting social impact in our communities so we are pleased to be able to support Southlake Regional Health Centre knowing they will improve the lives of many in our region well into the future.”
April 27, 2008:
In a moving ceremony that passed the torch to the community to help raise the balance of the funds required to build the Regional Cancer Program, Southlake launched the final phase of its $60 million “Southlake…count on me” campaign. Incredibly and in less than two years, the campaign has already raised more than $38 million, mostly through major gifts from individuals and corporations.
In announcing over $38 million raised to date, Southlake also announced several major gifts including:
- $1 million gift from a family who wishes to remain anonymous. Their generous donation is just one of many ways that this family supports Southlake. “This is a family who walks the talk and we are so grateful for the confidence they have in us to provide the best in healthcare to our region”, said Neila Poscente.
- $75,000 pledge from Aurora Mardi Gras who have raised $25,000 in only two years.
- $50,000 donation from Smith Rogers Financial. Michael Smith, President of the company is actively involved in the campaign as well being a member of Southlake’s board of directors. “Smith Rogers is proud to be able to contribute to the building of the Regional Cancer Program and we are deeply committed to Southlake and this initiative. We know that we are supporting our friends, family members, neighbours and clients who may one day be affected by cancer.”
- $30,000 from Aurora Rotary Club. They are long time supporters of Southlake and, given that the Regional Cancer Program will serve all of York Region and south Simcoe County, they understand that their community members will be well served by this life-saving program.
- $1,300 from PARTY IN YOUR PJ’s. This annual community dance party raised $1,300 to help build the Regional Cancer Program.

The campaign to build the Regional Cancer Program at Southlake Regional Health Centre received a boost today with a $750,000 gift from BMO Financial Group.
“Our region is fortunate to have the support of a community leader such as BMO Financial Group who truly walks the talk of corporate responsibility,” said Neila Poscente, President and CEO of the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation. “It is clear to us that this is an organization that is very much a part of our community’s fabric, and is committed to bringing advanced and accessible cancer care to the thousands of York Region and South Simcoe residents who will need it now or in the future.”
December 6, 2007:
Southlake's Count on Me campaign has received a huge boost with a $5 million gift from a family who wishes to remain anonymous. This gift is momentous in that it is one of only 18 gifts at this level in Canada over the past year, and is the second largest gift in the history of the Southlake Foundation.
"We are $5 million dollars closer to our $60 million campaign goal, and we are so grateful to this family for the confidence they have demonstrated in Southlake", said Neila Poscente, President and CEO of the Southlake Foundation. "That they have chosen to support Southlake and our vision for bringing the most advanced cancer care close to home, is a testament to their commitment to the residents of our community".
August 14, 2007:
Twelve everyday people brought to life this region’s most ambitious fundraising campaign ever today and declared their unwavering support for the urgent need for comprehensive cancer care, hoping to mobilize others to take up the challenge, and help build the Regional Cancer Centre Program at Southlake.
These twelve people are the faces of the most ambitious fundraising campaign this region has ever seen, with a goal of $60 million to be raised over the next 2 years, when the Regional Cancer Centre Program finally opens its doors in the fall of 2009. Under the title “ Southlake…count on me”, the campaign urges residents across York Region and south Simcoe County, to stand up and be counted, and support the hundreds of thousands of people who will require advanced cancer care at some point in their lives.

June 21, 2007:
Southlake’s $60 million fundraising campaign to build the Regional Cancer Centre moved closer to its goal with the announcement of a $1 million dollar gift from Beswick Properties Inc. and their families. “We are sincerely grateful to the Beswick family for their community leadership and for making cancer care a priority for this region”, said Neila Poscente, President and CEO of the Southlake Foundation. The ‘Southlake…count on me” campaign, is currently working with individuals and corporations and will launch the public phase of the campaign early in 2008. “This gift is moving us closer to our goal and we look forward to sharing our progress with the community early in the new year.”
“Our family believes that we have a responsibility to make our community a better place, and I can’t think of a more important issue than ensuring that the people who live in York Region have the healthcare that they need, and in this case, the cancer care they need close to home”, said David Beswick, President, Beswick Properties Inc. “We believe that we CAN make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who live in and around this region, by investing now. I can’t think of a safer investment than Southlake, and we hope that our gift will inspire others to give.”
December 19, 2006:
The Southlake Family never does anything halfway. Today, Toronto Maple Leaf legend, Wendel Clark, in his role as Honorary Chair of the Community Campaign for the Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake, participated in the announcement that the Southlake Family Campaign (staff, physicians and volunteers) had raised a record-breaking $1,048,776 to build the Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake, and the news that every department at Southlake participated in the campaign, a goal reached only by a handful of Canadian hospitals.
The final phase of the Southlake…count on me campaign is the opportunity for community members who have not yet had a chance, to make their contributions through a range of ways:
- making a donation by phone, mail or online to the Southlake Foundation;
- buying a ticket to a community event organized in support of the Regional Cancer Program;
- honouring a special occasion, a birth, or the memory of a special person; corporate sponsorship of an event;
- making a gift of securities or a bequest;
- organizing a fundraising event through your business, school, community or sports group, service club or family and friends.
Southlake’s Community Campaign team can help and will ensure that the event is a success. Contact the Community Campaign team at 905 836 7333.
