Diabetes Education

Diabetes Education

Our hospital is pleased to offer diabetes education programs in two convenient locations. Each program consists of three components - assessment, education and follow-up.

Newmarket-based Program

Participants with diabetes learn how to prevent or delay long term complications. Following assessment by a Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Registered Dietitian, participants attend a one or two day educational class on high and low blood sugar, nutrition and meal planning, medications and foot care. Fifteen minute follow-up appointments to provide information and answer questions are available. A physician referral is required.

Participants with diabetes learn how to manage their blood sugars in order to prevent or delay long term complications. Following assessment by a Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Registered Dietitian, participants attend a one-day educational class on high and low blood sugar, basic meal planning and are provided with further information on how to manage diabetes. A physician referral is required.

Alliston-based Program

Services offered include individual assessments, follow-ups and classroom education.  Assessments and appointments are booked Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Classes are held alternately in the evening or through the day once per month.  The team includes a Dietitian and Diabetes Nurse Educator.
