Complex Medical Rehabilitation

The Complex Medical Rehabilitation program includes General Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care. The program utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to providing care which involves the patient and his/her family, the physician and primary nurse, along with the expertise of a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, recreational therapist, nutritionist, pharmacist, chaplain, and social worker.

Patients and their families are involved in establishing an individual care plan through goal setting with team members. Patients are encouraged to take an active part in their daily care and rehabilitation and to be participants in activities that promote their recovery.

General Rehabilitation

These services have an allocated 14 beds and provide care to patients who are recovering from serious medical or surgical illnesses that have resulted in on-going disabilities. The goal of these services is to make our patients functionally independent. The length of stay is from one to four weeks; and the large majority of patients return to their own home after this stay. Patients are referred to the unit from acute care units within the Hospital.

Complex Continuing Care

This service accommodates 20 beds and provides care to patients who need 24-hour nursing care but who no longer require acute medical monitoring and treatment.

Our multi-disciplinary team assists patients in achieving their normal functions, and supports both patients and their families in identifying the most appropriate discharge destination (for example, Long-Term Care facility, retirement home, group home or their own home with home care support.) The length of stay is usually from two to eight weeks.
