Level Of Care Awarded Hightest Accreditation
Newmarket, Ontario - Dedicated to excellence through the delivery of quality health care services, Southlake Regional Health Centre recently received a 3-year Accreditation Award - the highest level of recognition from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA).
The CCHSA is a nationally recognized accrediting body that evaluates services of participating health organizations and compares them with national standards of quality.
The survey, which occurs every 3 years, took place between February 26, and March 2, 2006. It included a comprehensive review of documentation, team interviews, facility tours and focus group meetings with various stakeholders.
Southlake received a perfect score on the Required Organizational Practices related to Patient Safety. "Once again we are pleased with the results of the survey," says Dan Carriere, President and CEO. "A big thank you to all of our dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers who participated in the accreditation process."
The hospital was commended for the progress made since the previous survey. The evaluation highlights Southlake's focus on patient-centred care and its promotion of a patient-safety culture. Other recognition includes the staff's embrace of the many challenges resulting from redevelopment projects. Despite the disruptions, the council noted that staff, volunteers and physicians continue to provide quality care to the community.
As part of the evaluation process, the report outlines some key recommendations for improvement. "We are committed to maintaining continuous improvements in all areas of service,' stated Dan. "Continuing to meet the needs of our growing community remains our top priority."
Southlake's Accreditation Steering committee will meet in early June to review the findings and develop an implementation plan. The next Accreditation survey takes place in 2009.
