About Southlake Regional Health Centre

Southlake Regional Health Centre is located in York Region at 596 Davis Drive in Newmarket, Ontario. From the outside, you might think this is a brand new hospital, but the truth is that Southlake has proudly served this community for more than 85 years. Our ‘new look and feel’ is due to that fact that in recent years, Southlake has undergone a stunning transformation from a local community hospital to a foremost regional health care centre. Our state-of-the-art buildings house leading edge technology and facilities comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, what is offered anywhere else in the Province of Ontario. 

Southlake’s growth could not have been better timed. York Region is growing at an astounding rate—36,000 new residents per year. It also has twice the provincial average of people under 65 years of age and three times the provincial average for seniors.

To provide health care to this growing population, within our walls is a team of more than 2,400 employees, 380 physicians and 500 volunteers, who are relentless in their commitment to deliver excellence. Here are some of their recent accomplishments:

• A cardiac centre where in 2007, we performed a world-first cardiac procedure.

• Nationally renowned reputation for delivering excellence in arthritis care, child and adolescent eating disorders, and shoulder surgery.

• Southlake performs more thoracic surgeries for lung and esophageal cancer than the ten other hospitals in the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) combined! One of only a few hospitals in Canada to offer minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
  
  
• Fully digital diagnostic imaging facilities, including CT, MRI, mammography, and ultrasound, thereby providing staff and physicians with a faster, safer, more streamlined imaging service than ever before.
  
  
• Construction has begun on our new world-class Cancer Centre, which will open in 2009. Services will include diagnostics, surgery, chemotherapy, support services, clinical trials, and radiation therapy. Our partnership with Princess Margaret Hospital provides the opportunity for Southlake’s cancer team to work alongside internationally renowned experts in the field of cancer treatment and research.

• A modern Regional Level 2 Pediatric and Perinatal Care Centre. While most pregnancies and deliveries are what are considered ‘normal’, we also provide the highest level of care for moderate and high-risk pregnant mothers, at risk newborns, and children with unique health needs.
  
  
• Southlake joined an elite handful of Canadian hospitals to offer laparoscopic prostatectomy, the removal of the entire prostate gland and surrounding tissue through minimally invasive surgery.

• For the second consecutive year, Southlake was recognized as a High Performer in two quadrants of the province’s Hospital Report: Acute Care Clinical Utilization & Outcomes, and Financial Performance and Condition, reflecting above average ratings in access to coronary care, labour and delivery adverse events, and financial viability and efficiency. Above average ratings were also achieved in other quadrants including patient satisfaction and ambulatory care practices. To achieve these results takes goal setting, commitment and great people.
  
  
• The new Eye Institute at Southlake, with modern, newly constructed surgical suites, state-of-the-art equipment, spacious assessment and treatment rooms, all among a patient friendly environment, has the capacity to perform between 7,000 and 9,000 surgical cases per year.
