Huron Technologies collaborates with Southlake Regional Health Centre to develop a Digital Pathology solution based on its newest TISSUEscope™ HS Digital Slide Scanner
WATERLOO and NEWMARKET, Ontario, January 23, 2013, Huron Technologies and Southlake Regional Health Centre today announced their collaboration to develop a Digital Pathology solution and workflow based on Huron Technologies' newest TISSUEscope™ HS Digital Slide Scanner. The parties plan to collaborate and develop an optimized digital version of the pathology slides in the lab at Southlake Regional Health Centre.
The collaboration is based on Huron Technologies' newly developed and highly anticipated TISSUEscope™ HS Digital Slide Scanner.
The collaboration brings together Huron Technologies’ leading expertise in digital slide scanning technology with its award winning TISSUEscope™, and Southlake Regional Health Centre, an acute care and research-based hospital located in Newmarket, Ontario. "This collaboration is an important first step toward building an efficient digital pathology workflow,” said Dr. Charles Ye, Chief of Pathology & Laboratory Medical Director at Southlake Regional Health Centre. “The development of an optimized digital laboratory infrastructure will support our mission of providing the highest quality, innovative and cost effective care to our patients. This partnership will allow Southlake pathologists to test drive Huron’s solution and provide input. Early pathologist feedback will help ensure the solution fits the pattern of practice and achieves the required diagnostic efficiency and accuracy."
Dr. Reda Fayek, Chief Executive Officer at Huron Technologies, adds: "We are excited at the prospect of collaborating with the pathologists and laboratory team at Southlake Regional Health Centre to develop and demonstrate best practices for using our newest TISSUEscope™ HS Digital Slide Scanner. This instrument is the fastest available scanner optimized to offer the best value for the typical pathology workflow. Partnerships like these are essential to our product development strategy as we seek to maximize the process efficiency and workflow. Southlake, a progressive hospital with great emphasis on productivity and efficiency improvement, is a great partner to work with on this project where pathologists and lab technologists evaluate and enhance the new solution."
“Huron’s new solution integrates digital pathology into the pathology workflow,” adds Dr. Ye. “The goal of our two organizations is to create an efficient generation, management and sharing of pathology information that will improve workflow and communication for the pathologists, to ultimately complement clinical decision making.”
Dr. Dave Williams, Southlake Regional Health Centre’s CEO is driving an innovative and unique perspective on how to improve the overall patient experience. He believes strongly that the development and marketing of commercialized, innovative solutions—whether it be process solutions, software development or medical device creation—is the key to redefining the healthcare sector and enhancing our economy.
