In August 2012, Dr. Dave Williams, President & CEO kicked-off the planning process to develop the Hospital’s next five year strategic plan. In keeping with Southlake’s commitment to Put Patients First, the process will be heavily based on input and the identified needs of our patients. Consisting of five phases, the goal is to have the planning process finalized and the plan presented to the Board of Directors for approval in early 2013.
Phase 1: Current Statement Assessment (August to October)
This phase is focused on:
i) communicating the strategic planning process to all internal staff, physicians, and volunteers.
ii) conducting an environmental scan (i.e., gathering data to better understand the patient populations we serve, their healthcare needs, and the services they are currently accessing from Southlake; and
iii) conducting interviews with patients and their family members to gain a better understanding of what they value most about their healthcare experiences and the challenges they may face in accessing care at Southlake and within their community.
In September, face-to-face interviews were conducted with more than 300 patients/family members. From these interviews, close to than
800 needs statements were created and organized into
4 main clusters.
Phase 2: Exploring Patient Needs (October/November)
During this phase:
i) feedback gathered during Phase 1 will be used to gain an understanding of patient needs, which will be tested with patients, staff, physicians and volunteers to identify issues of high priority.
ii) attended by hospital and physician leaders, members of the public, healthcare partners, and patients, a strategic planning summit will be held on October 26 to further explore the vision for Southlake and understand the implications and obstacles of that vision.
