Out-Patient Respiratory Services and Community Resources
There are several services available to patients suffering from respiratory conditions both at Southlake and in the community.
Southlake offers Independent Exercise Assessment through its Pulmonary Function Lab and patients with acute respiratory conditions may be seen at Southlake's Urgent Medicine Clinic.
A physician's referral is required to access both of these services.
There are also several resources available in the community and online to patients with respiratory conditions including exercise programs, a support group, and education resources to support patients to improve their quality of life. These resources are listed below.
Community and Online Resources
Action 4 Life (Southlake)
The Action 4 Life group session is a four-week program focused on cardiovascular, muscular, and flexibility exercises that will help to improve overall physical well-being.

Chronic Disease Exercise Program
Offered by the Town of Newmarket, this program offers a general exercise class addressing cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility. A physician's referral is required. Please call the Newmarket Seniors Meeting Place at 905-953-5325.
LA Fitness Respiratory Exercise Classes
These classes will be supervised by a fitness trainer who has been educated in working with clients who have respiratory problems. Clients will have a brief intake interview with the fitness trainer so that the trainer can get to know each client and their goals. Clients will have access to treadmills, seated bicycles, and light weights. Clients will exercise independently under the supervision of the fitness trainer.
LA Fitness team may consult with Southlake staff as needed.

Tuesdays 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Fridays 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
The private small gym is reserved for use only during class times on Tuesdays and Fridays

Health Living Now Workshop
This 6-session workshop is for adults of all ages with any chronic condition. Participants will learn effective strategies to help improve quality of life. This workshop is also open to caregivers, support persons, and family members.
Newmarket COPD Support Group
Meets the 2nd Thursday of each month.
