Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be motivated, self-directed and a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and patient flow. The successful candidate will be responsible to provide excellent care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced transitioning setting in the Medical Assessment and Consultation Unit.  The unit provides ongoing comprehensive assessments within specified timelines; resulting in early treatments, diagnostics and care planning for patients, facilitating patient flow from the Emergency department through to discharge or the transfer of the patient to an Inpatient unit.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Minimum 3 years recent acute hospital medical nursing experience

  • Excellent physical assessment skills are essential

  • Current BCLS certificate, ACLS certificate preferred

  • Coronary Care I and Coronary Care II preferred, or willingness to obtain

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal

  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment

  • Demonstrates a commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in   compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety regulations and completing mandated training and educational sessions as required

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within an inter-professional team

  • Commitment to customer service and teamwork

  • Must be able to deal effectively with patients and family members in crisis situations

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Demonstrates excellent clinical skills and professional leadership capabilities with a focus on collaborative teamwork, patient flow and quality improvements

  • Prior experience working in a changing atmosphere would be beneficial

  • Knowledge of the Lean and Patient Flow process would be beneficial

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated problem assessment skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork

  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills
