Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, self-directed and a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and outcomes supporting patient flow. The successful candidate will provide excellent care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast paced transitioning setting in the Medical Assessment and Consultation Unit.  Ongoing patient assessments and evaluations result in early treatments, consultations, diagnostics and care planning for patients, thereby facilitating patient flow from the Emergency department through to discharge or the transfer of the patient to an alternate inpatient unit.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current RPN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario required

  • Minimum 3 years recent acute hospital medical nursing experience required

  • Current BCLS certificate required

  • Excellent physical assessment and monitoring skills in order to recognize changes in patient status and response to interventions  and plan of care

  • Demonstrates excellent clinical skills, and  knowledge of scope of practice with a focus on collaborative teamwork, patient flow and quality improvements

  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment

  • Demonstrates a commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety regulations and completing mandated training and educational sessions as required

  • Demonstrates an ability to collaborate within an inter-professional team

  • Commitment to customer service and teamwork

  • Must be able to deal effectively with patients and family members in crisis situations

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated problem assessment skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork

  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills
