Job Summary:

The SPD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution of medical-surgical supplies and equipment, with particular emphasis on specialty instrumentation utilized in OR procedures

Qualifications:

·         Minimum Grade 12 education

·         C.S.A.O. certified or equivalent

·         Previous experience as a Technician is essential, as well as some knowledge of surgical instrumentation, medical - surgical supplies and equipment.

·         Must be well organized in order to complete daily workload and maintain optimal turn -around times for reusable equipment.  Work is performed independently within the confines of predetermined procedures and practices.  The Technician must be capable of working co-operatively within a team to achieve the demands of the department.

·         Must be in good physical health and be capable of pushing and pulling carts, lifting and carrying items between 1 and 22 kg., pivoting and reaching to pick stock and of standing for extended period of time. Manual dexterity is required for most functions of this work.

·         Working knowledge of basic aseptic techniques and principles of Infection Control

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

·         Demonstrates excellence in communication, both written and verbal

·         Analysis / problem assessment

·         Innovative and willing to learn

·         Commitment to customer service and teamwork

·         Demonstrates individual leadership skills

·         Proven ability to attend work regularly as per the Attendance Support Policy #HA30 and Procedure #HA35.
