If a visit from a spiritual leader from various faith traditions is requested, or a patient asks to receive religious sacraments, arrangements will be made through the Spiritual Care Team.

A recent survey showed that hospitalized patients ranked compassion, a caring presence, and prayer as top priorities in their spiritual care. We suggest families and friends encourage the patient to seek spiritual support in times of need.

Spiritual care is integral to our well-being. It is a connectedness to self, to others, and to the sacred. Members of the Spiritual Care Team at Southlake strive to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families, staff, physicians, and volunteers. Within our multi-faith and multi-cultural community, spiritual care providers recognize that meeting the spiritual care needs of patients and their families is a patient right and a healthcare obligation.
Spiritual Care Providers at Southlake:
- offer a compassionate caring presence and empathetic listening;
- are sensitive and respectful of cultural, spiritual and religious diversity;
- are available to patients, families, staff, physicians and volunteers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- offer prayer if requested;
- are committed to confidentiality and privacy;
believe that spirituality is different for each individual. For some, it is associated with a specific faith or religious tradition while others identify themselves as " spiritual but not religious"; and
will call a patient's own spiritual/faith leader.
