Helena J. Hutton obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario, after which she proceeded to complete a Masters in Education at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario. Helena has recently completed the Advanced Healthcare Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
Helena’s nursing career began in 1985 where she was staff nurse at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario until 1988. For the next ten years (1988–1998), she was employed at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in different capacities—as Nurse Manager from 1991 to 1997 in In-patient and Out-patient Operating Rooms, Post Anaesthetic Care and Ambulatory Surgery Care, and from 1997 to 1998 as Child Health Services Manager in Perioperative Services and Ambulatory Diagnostics. From 1998 to 2006, Helena worked at the Trillium Health Centre where she held various positions notably as Director of Health Systems (Surgical Services), Interim Vice President (Patient Services), and as Associate Vice President (Strategic Initiatives, Patient Services). In her role at Trillium, Helena lead teams which were nationally recognized with the Johnson and Johnson Best Practices award and the National 3M Health Care Quality Team Award. After a year as an independent consultant to the hospital sector, Helena joined Southlake Regional Health Centre in 2007. Helena has held a number of positions at Southlake including Director of Paramedical Services (Pharmacy, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging), Interim Director of Health Information Management, Decision Support and Patient Access, Associate Vice President of Quality, Risk and Planning and Interim Vice President of Emergency and Medicine. In 2011, Helena was appointed Vice President of Quality, Emergency, ICU, Medicine & Surgical Programs.
