Electrophysiology Program
Southlake's Heart Rhythm program cares for people with irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmias; conditions such as atrial fibrillation, tachycardia flutter, a slow or racing heart, dizziness, or Wolf Parkinson White syndrome.

An arrhythmia is a problem that occurs in the heart's electrical system, compromising the normal pumping action of the heart. Think of it as a short circuit in this electrical system; the short circuit may cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or occasionally flutter in an irregular pattern.

Arrhythmias are treated in a variety of ways including electrophysiology studies and ablation, small implanted devices that regulate the heartbeat called pacemakers, cardioversion and cardioverter defibrillators.

Recognized provincially, nationally and internationally as a leader in quality research in the treatment and management of electrical abnormalities of the heart. The Heart Rhythm Program serves patients from throughout York Region, Dufferin County, Muskoka and areas of Northern Ontario.
