Spiritual & Religious Care

Our spirit is integral to our well-being: a connectedness to self, to others and to the sacred. Within our multi-faith and multi-cultural community, we recognize that meeting the spiritual care needs of patients and their families is a right and a healthcare obligation. We strive to deliver spiritual care that embraces the diverse and unique experience of the individual.

For some people spiritual care is associated with a specific faith or religious tradition while others identify themselves as "spiritual but not religious".

Spiritual Care Providers:

  • believe that spirituality is different for each person. For some it is related to a specific faith or religious tradition while others identify themselves as "spiritual but not religious"; offer a compassionate caring presence and empathetic listening;
  • are sensitive and respectful of cultural, spiritual and religious diversity;
  • are available to patients, families, staff and volunteers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
  • are committed to confidentiality and privacy;
  • offer prayer if requested; and
  • will call a patient's own spiritual/faith leader if requested.

Spiritual Care Services:

  • the multi-faith chapel is available for prayer, quiet reading or reflection and meditation. Accessible on Level 1 and Level 2 of the Central Building;
  • grief support groups;
  • emotional and spiritual support; and
  • memorial services.

Chapel:
A multi-faith chapel is available for prayer, quiet reading or reflection and meditation. It is accessible on Level 1 (by Tim Horton's) and Level 2 of the East Building and is open 24/7.
