General Information
Getting to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre
The Canadian Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope Transportation Service may be an option for patients who need assistance getting to the Cancer Centre.
Hours of Operation
The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake is open:
Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays), 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Hours are subject to change.
Accommodations
Overnight accommodations are not available for patients, families, and/or caregivers visiting the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre. Accommodations may be arranged in Newmarket and the local vicinity. For information regarding accommodations, go to Hotel Accommodations, visit our Patient & Family Resource Centre or refer to the local Yellow Pages.

If you are considering staying in a local hotel, please be sure to inform the hotel of any special requirements you may have. If you are staying for a long period of time, you may want to inquire as to whether they have special rates for long stay or patients of Southlake Regional Health Centre. Please note, that these are suggestions only, and the Hospital cannot be held responsible for the conditions or suitability of outside accommodations.

As a patient of the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and Southlake Regional Health Centre, you entrust us with information about yourself. To honour that trust, we ensure that your personal information is only collected, used, and/or disclosed for legitimate purposes related to your care and we protect it from misuse.

Food Services
The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre is an ambulatory centre, providing care to our patients on an out-patient basis, and does not have its own cafeteria or food outlets for patients and visitors. Patients coming to the Cancer Centre are encouraged to bring their own food and snacks in case they get hungry during their visit, or be accompanied by a support person who could get them food from the adjacent main Hospital Building. Smoke Free
Smoking is prohibited on the Southlake campus and the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, inside and out.
Southlake is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its patients and visitors, as well as its employees, physicians, and volunteers.

To assist our patients, we have trained staff members who would be pleased to offer smoking cessation treatment/counseling. Self-help educational material is also be available at the Patient & Family Resource Centre and in waiting areas.

Patient Safety
The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre strives to always ‘Put Patients First’ by providing safe and effective care for those we serve. Patient safety is built on a firm partnership among patients, their families, and healthcare professionals. We are committed to making your safety our top priority. We encourage patients and families to make their healthcare safer by being active, involved, and informed.
 
To help ensure patient safety throughout the Cancer Centre, each new patient will be required to have their photograph taken during their first visit. This photograph, which will reside in the patient’s electronic health record will be taken for identification purposes only and will be referenced by the healthcare team throughout your treatment.

Additional Patient Safety measures that are used by the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre include:
  • Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE)
  • “Double check” of all medication and other orders by members of the healthcare team
  • Employing pharmacists with specific training and experience with cancer drugs and therapy
  • A Falls Prevention Program
Scent Reduction
Staff, patients and visitors are asked to refrain from wearing scented personal products (e.g. aftershave, cologne, body sprays, perfumes, etc.) in the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and Southlake. Scented personal products may adversely affect patients, employees and visitors who are sensitive, have asthma or have allergies to chemicals in scented products.   More Information about Scent Reduction
