About your Heart

Your heart is a muscular organ that acts like a pump to continuously send  blood throughout your body. Your heart is the hub of your circulatory system. This system consists of blood vessels which include arteries, veins, and capillaries. These blood vessels transport blood to and from all areas of your body.

The heart is regulated by an electrical system which relies on electrical signals to stimulate the heart muscle to pump. The pumping of the heart muscle allows for blood to be delivered to your circulatory system. Heart valves ensure that the blood flows in the correct direction.

Your heart’s ability to function properly is vital to your health. Without the heart’s pumping action, blood can not circulate within your body. A healthy heart helps to regulate the blood flow throughout the body. If disease or injury weakens your heart, your body’s organs will not receive enough blood to work effectively. *
