Some patient and family support groups and services operating in North York, York Region and Simcoe County are listed below. Please visit the Patient & Family Resource Centre for further information about these groups and other support groups in the Greater Toronto Area. The volunteers in the Patient and Family Resource Centre will be happy to provide information for programs close to you

The Canadian Cancer Society Peer Support service connects patients and caregivers (on a one-to-one basis) with a trained volunteer who will listen, provide hope, offer encouragement and share ideas for coping – all from their unique perspective as someone who's been there.  To register for this service, call 1-888-939-3333.
 
The Wheels of Hope transportation service assists eligible cancer patients with their short-term need to travel to cancer-specific appointments if they cannot get there on their own. Registered patients will be picked up and taken to their appointment by a volunteer driver. This is a shared-ride program that provides transportation and also offers a friendly, supportive environment along the way. To register for this service, call 1-888-939-3333.

 
Gilda's Club provides social and emotional support for anyone who is feeling the impact of cancer. Gilda's Club is a place to find inspiration in a community atmosphere with others who are facing cancer. 10 Quarry Ridge Rd. Barrie, Ontario, 705-726-5199

Support Groups

The Prostate Cancer Canada Network - Newmarket Support Group is a volunteer organization, consisting of prostate cancer patients, partners, survivors and caregivers, providing understanding, hope and information to prostate cancer patients and their families. The group serves all of York Region and the surrounding areas and meets the 3rd Thursday of every month (September - June) at the Newmarket Seniors Meeting Place, 474 Davis Drive, Newmarket, Ontario, 905 853-2665
 
Toronto & District Multiple Myeloma Support Group is for myeloma patients and their spouses, caregivers, loved ones, significant others, family members and friends. The purpose of the group is to explore and discuss the wide range of treatment options and to give myeloma survivors and their loved ones the support and information they need to live longer, stronger lives. The group meets every two months, February, April, June, August, October and December, on the first Saturday of the month.   Jubilee United Church, 40 Underhill Drive, North York
